A Guide to Fertility Careers: Exploring Roles from Administration to Nursing

    By Prelude Fertility|August 27th, 2025

Fertility clinic jobs are extremely rewarding. Various professionals — from doctors and nurses to administrative staff and financial counselors — all play crucial roles in helping to create families. Whether you're well-versed in fertility care or are interested in a more administrative role, you can make a difference in your community by pursuing a career in this field.

    Clinical Roles

Clinical roles in fertility care require extensive training, encompassing reproductive endocrinologists, fertility nurses, and other medical professionals. Reproductive endocrinologists are physicians with specialized training in diagnosing and treating infertility. They perform treatments such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF), with the assistance of fertility nurses. Fertility nurses provide care, support, and education to patients throughout the entire process. Some nurses may specialize further and become nurse practitioners.

Other clinical roles may include sonographers, urologists, and obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs). Sonographers perform ultrasounds to monitor follicle growth and other aspects of fertility treatment. Some clinics utilize urologists in cases of male-factor infertility and OB/GYNS who specialize in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI).

    Laboratory Roles

During a fertility evaluation, a patient may need to provide blood samples or semen for analysis, which can be prepared and analyzed by a laboratory technician. Additionally, fertility treatments like IVF rely on embryologists, who are specially trained to manage reproductive materials and fertilize embryos. Many laboratory roles require specific degrees in science, biology, or related fields. Some positions may also necessitate advanced degrees.

    Administrative Roles

Administrative positions are crucial to fertility clinics, encompassing patient scheduling, billing, and record-keeping. Many clinics also have financial counselors available to help aspiring parents navigate the costs of treatment. Fertility treatments are physically and emotionally demanding, and administrative staff play a key role in helping patients through this delicate time in their lives.
