Meet the Team
Richard Sherbahn, M. D.Reproductive Endocrinologist & Infertility Specialist
Dr. Sherbahn founded the Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago in 1997 and serves as the program director and laboratory director at AFCC. He is board-certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His area of special interest is advanced reproductive technologies including IVF, egg donation, pre-implantation genetic testing and fertility preservation.
Dr. Sherbahn completed advanced infertility training with a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He received his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, MI and earned his medical degree from the John Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Dr. Sherbahn has conducted research in reproductive medicine and has presented his findings to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. His clinical articles have been published in Human Reproduction, the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics and the Journal of Reproductive Medicine. He has also conducted presentations for the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Chicago Association of Reproductive Endocrinologists, Rush University and Resolve.
Michelle Catenacci, M. D.Reproductive Endocrinologist & Infertility Specialist
Dr. Catenacci was born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan. She is board-certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Catenacci has had extensive training in the most up-to-date minimally invasive surgical techniques with experience in operative hysteroscopy for treatment of fibroids, uterine septums, and uterine adhesions. She is experienced with both traditional laparoscopy and robotic surgery in the treatment of uterine fibroids. "I was fortunate to train with some of the leaders in reproductive surgery," says Dr. Catenacci. "Having such a strong surgical background is becoming more unusual in our field. I find it rewarding to be able to tackle challenging cases in the operating room."
Dr. Catenacci went to medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit and then moved to Ohio for post-graduate training. Her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology was done at MetroHealth Medical Center/Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. She then stayed at the Cleveland Clinic to complete a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Dr. Catenacci has had multiple publications in the field of reproductive medicine. These include articles pertaining to endometriosis and infertility and the use of robotics in reproductive surgery. She has written book chapters and has given several national presentations. These presentations have included both research abstracts and surgical technique videos and have garnered her recognition at national conferences.
Gary Jones, M. D.Reproductive Endocrinologist & Infertility Specialist
Dr. Jones began his medical career as the director of the division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Naval Hospital in Oakland California where he trained residents and new infertility fellows. Dr. Jones practiced as a fertility specialist in Dearborn, Michigan for over twenty years. During that time he was also a Clinical Assistant Professor and Lecturer at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. His areas of interest include advances in reproductive endocrinology techniques, IVF, egg donation, preimplantation genetic testing, and fertility preservation. Dr. Jones has extensive experience in surgery, including tubal reversal surgery after tubal ligation and surgical correction of uterine abnormalities.
Dr. Jones has been board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility for over twenty years. He graduated from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the US Naval Hospital in San Diego California. Dr. Jones attended Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan where he completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Mohamad Irani, M.D.Reproductive Endocrinologist & Infertility Specialist
Dr. Mohamad Irani completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and a board-certified fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He received numerous awards for his clinical expertise, surgical skills, and medical research, including the New York Obstetrical Society Resident and Fellow Research Night Awards for outstanding research papers, the Gynecological Society of Brooklyn and Staten Island’s first prize for research, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists award for surgical excellence. He was also the recipient of four grants from the Maimonides Research and Development Foundation.
Dr. Irani’s clinical expertise comprises all aspects of reproductive medicine, including IVF, ICSI, preimplantation genetic testing, fertility preservation, egg freezing, ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination, polycystic ovary syndrome, amenorrhea, diminished ovarian reserve, premature ovarian insufficiency, endometriosis, male infertility, recurrent miscarriage, egg donation, and LGBT reproduction. He is a skilled surgeon and performs minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures to treat uterine, tubal, and ovarian pathologies.
Dr. Irani has published 33 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts in prestigious journals such as Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM), Human Reproduction, Fertility and Sterility, Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics (JARG), Obstetrics and Gynecology, and PLOS ONE. He has also written textbook chapters and authored 83 research abstracts that were presented at national and international scientific meetings such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. Dr. Irani is an Ad Hoc reviewer for several scientific journals, including Human Reproduction, JARG, Reproductive Biomedicine Online, Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology, and JCEM. He also reviews abstracts submitted to the annual scientific meetings of ASRM and Society for Reproductive Investigation.
